The health benefits and uses of olive leaves.

5. The root of the dandelion has been shown to treat people suffering with leukaemia.

6. In order to enjoy these health benefits, you can eat dandelions including the leaves in a salad. However they often taste bitter, so I recommend making dandelion leaf tea.

7. To make this, simply chop a handful of dandelion leaves and steep in hot water for 5 minutes.

8. I recommend also using the flowers and the roots in this tea, be sure to clean them thoroughly before use.

9. Dandelions also contain a high dose of vitamin K, which has been linked to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

10. You can also use dandelions in a delicious smoothie with other fruits, and vegetables seen in our other videos.

11. The leaves also contain copper. Potassium, phosphorus, manganese, zinc and magnesium, which are all included in the recommend daily allowance, for good health.

12. As well as Vitamin K, they also contain Vitamin C, B1, B2, B6 and E, making dandelions a wonderful natural multivitamin.

13. All essential amino acids are present, making them perfect for a leafy green source of protein.

14. Those who suffer with eye strain, and have problems such as macular degeneration, can use dandelions to reduce symptoms and prevent further damage.

15. Dandelions grow throughout the spring and early summer months, and can be harvested from almost anywhere.

16. You can store them in an air-tight container in the refrigerator, or dehydrate them for long term storage.

17. The tea has been shown to settle an upset stomach and reduce intestinal gas.

18. The anti-inflammatory effects treat muscle aches and joint pain.

19. Dandelion leaves effectively stimulates the gallbladder, therefore purifying the blood and reducing the risk of gall stones.

20. They raise HDL levels and therefore control cholesterol levels in the body, helping to maintain a healthy heart.

21. Did you know that dandelions are asexual, meaning they can produce their own seeds without pollination.

The health benefits of mango leaves for diabetes and more.

1. Diabetes is a common condition where the blood contains too much glucose, and the body is unable to process it properly.

2. This happens because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or because the cells don’t react to insulin properly.

3. There are many natural foods which can be used to help regulate blood sugar levels, and therefore keep diabetes at bay.

4. Mango leaves have been shown to lower blood sugar levels. This will not cure diabetes, but will help control the condition.

5. There are three different ways that you can consume the leaves to get the benefits.

6. The first method is to soak around 10-15 leaves in water, and refrigerate overnight. You can then drink this water and discard the leaves.

7. The second method is for when you don’t have the time to soak the leaves. Simply place 3 leaves in a cup of boiling water for 3 minutes, then drink.

8. The third method includes long term preparation. You can dry out mango leaves in a shady area for 1-2 weeks. Then grind to a powder and store. You can eat one teaspoon of this 2-3 times per day, or steep in water to make mango leaf tea.

9. Mango leaves also contain vitamins, enzymes, minerals and anti-oxidants which are beneficial for your overall health.

10. Drinking this tea regularly will also help to regulate blood pressure, strengthen veins, reduce hypertension and treat hiccups.

11. If you suffer with asthma, the oils contained within the leaf tea will help to ease your condition, allowing for easier breathing.

12. You can also burn the mango leaves to produce an ash. This ash when cooled can be placed on burns to accelerate healing.

13. You can also use the tea as a mouth gargle to treat gum problems, and mouth ulcers.

14. Like many other herbal leaves, they help to increase digestion, allowing the body to pass toxins more effectively also boosting the immune system.

The health benefits and uses of the Ashitaba Plant also known as tomorrow leaf.

1. Ashitaba grows in Japan and has been used as a natural medicine for over 400 years. It is often confused with a similar looking plant known as longevity spinach.

2. It one of the healthiest foods known to man, however it has a bitter taste which often discourages people from eating it.

3. It is commonly used fresh or dried to make a superfood tea. Which can be mixed with other healthy foods for a better flavour.

4. When cut, Ashitaba releases a healing sap which can be used on wounds and cuts to prevent infections.

5. It has been shown to help improve the central nervous system of the body.

6. Ashitaba tea can be drank regularly to treat infections such as cold and flu.

7. It is also a diuretic, which allows the body to releases excess water weight, making you feel better, and having better digestion.

8. The liquid in the leaves contains high amounts of vitamins a, b, c, e and carotenes, minerals and chlorophyll.

9. These properties allow it to be antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory. Making it excellent for healing the body.

10. If you suffer with anaemia, Ashitaba will help to combat this due to the high presence of iron, calcium and potassium. The proteins will also help to build muscle when exercising.

11. It has a high concentration of vitamin B12, which helps the brain in a variety of different ways. Concentration and clarity of thought is increased, as well as having better control over emotions and memory.

Soursop fruit is known for its many health benefits. However today we explore the lesser known soursop leaves, for their potential health benefits. It is also known as graviola or guyabano in different places. So let's take a look at what these rich green leaves have to offer.

The Health Benefits of Soursop leaves, also known as graviola or guyabano.

1. The leaves of the soursop plant are commonly found in tropical climates such as the Caribbean, Africa, Southeast Asia, Central America and South America.

2. They have many different health benefits and are therefore used to treat a variety of different health problems as an alternative medicine.

3. In order to consume the leaves, the best method is to make A herbal tea. This can be achieved by simply combining boiling water, with a portion of freshly cut or dried leaves.

4. One of the main uses is to alleviate pain which is caused by arthritis. You can do this by mashing the leaves and applying directly to the skin.

5. Because soursop leaves are naturally anti-inflammatory, they are often used to treat those suffering with a cold, and have blocked nasal passages.

6. They also help if you have over exerted yourself during exercise, and have aching joints. The soursop leaves tea will help ease this joint and muscle pain.

7. Back pain, neck pain and headaches can also be reduced by drinking 1 cup of this tea per day.

8. If you have trouble sleeping, drinking this, may help you have a relaxing night’s sleep, due to its

sedative properties.

9. If you’re suffering with skin conditions such as eczema, applying mashed leaves directly the skin will help to sooth and alleviate these problems.

10. Soursop leaves have been scientifically proven to kill both liver and breast cancer cells, and may also help people with side-effects from chemotherapy.

11. The entire soursop tree is very rich in iron. Therefore drinking soursop tea, will help to increase the red blood cell count, to cure those suffering with anaemia.

12. It has also been shown to treat gallbladder and liver problems, even reducing glucose levels for people who have high blood sugar or diabetes.

13. Like most leafy greens, soursop helps the body to digest foods more efficiently, providing relief from constipation and bloating.

14. Other parts of the soursop tree may also be eaten, including the fruit, bark and roots. All in which are used to treat similar conditions.

The Health Benefits and Uses of papaya leaves, also known as papita or pawpaw leaves.

1.       The leaves of the papaya are very large and can be harvested directly from the plant. These are used to treat many medical conditions such as dengue fever and vitamin deficiencies due to their ability to prevent blood clots and increase platelet counts.
2.       They are also used to aid the body’s digestion by breaking down wheat gluten. This gluten is particularly high in foods such as bread, cakes, biscuits and pastries.
3.       Papaya leaves also contain agents which have been proven to kill cancer cells.
4.       In order to consume papaya leaves, you’ll want to extract the juice that is contained within them. This is where all of the healthy benefits lie. I recommend slicing the leaves relatively small with a sharp knife, then muddle or pound them in a pestle and mortar, or blend. You can then simply push them through a strainer to squeeze out the juice.
5.       This juice can be drank any time, but is very bitter to drink. You can add honey to help with this, or combine with other healthy fruit juices and create unique health tonic blends.
6.       This papaya leaf juice can also help to treat indigestion and acid reflux, due to the high content of papain, amylase and protease enzymes.
7.       It is also anti-inflammatory and can be used to help treat minor prostate enlargement, and menstrual or period pain.
8.       Dried or fresh papaya leaves can be used to create a paste to treat acne, by applying directly to the problem area
9.       Many now use papaya leaf capsules and extracts to treat dengue fever.
10.   Intestinal worms, fungi, parasites and harmful bacteria are treatable by consuming this wonderful leaf juice. The tannins contained within, protect the intestinal wall from these unwanted visitors.
11.   Many use these particular leaves to help cleanse the skin, and can therefore be found in all kinds of cosmetic products, facemasks and rubs. Eczema is also treatable in this way.
12.   Much like Aloe Vera, the juice from the leaves can be used on open wounds and sores to prevent infection and promote faster healing.
13.   It can be used to create shampoos and conditioners to clean and refresh the hair, and reduce conditions such as an itchy scalp and dandruff.
14.   The leaves may also be smoked, to help those suffering with asthma and to lower cholesterol.

The guava fruit is well known as a tasty fruit with many health benefits, however there are also many applications for the leaves of the plants in alternative medicine.

1. Young guava leaves can be harvested from the plant and used in a variety of different alternative medicines.

2. The guava plant itself grows primarily in warm climates, including Mexico, Central America, Asia and Africa.

3. The most common use for the guava leaves is to treat digestive disorders such as diarrhoea, dysentery, gastric pain and flatulence.

4. This is achieved by drinking guava leaves tea, three times per day. You can make this by soaking the young leaves in hot water for a few minutes, then strain to remove any floating particles.

5. You can also make a dental paste by crushing the leaves in a bowl, and use this to brush your teeth. This can help with many oral health problems, and act as an anti-plaque toothpaste. The anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties also help to keep the breath fresh, and gums healthy.

6. Alternatively, you can create a powerful mouthwash by boiling a cup of water with around 5 leaves, and 2 tablespoons of salt.

8. High cholesterol is common nowadays due to the heavy consumption of processed foods. Drinking guava leaf tea on a regular basis helps to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels for better functioning arteries, and reducing the risk of heart disease.

9. The tea may also be used in both preventing and treating diabetes. If you drink it regularly it will help to stabilise blood sugar levels, and inhibit the absorption of maltose and sucrose.

10. If you can’t get your hands on the fresh leaves, you could buy them in supplement form in either capsules, liquids, powders, oils or tablets which contain extract from the foliage of the plant.

As you can see, it’s well worth taking the time to start eating and drinking healthy foods that will take care of your body in the long term. Remember, great nutrition is one of the keys to feeling great.

Amla (mblica officinalis gaertn) or Indian gooseberries have many benefits and is used to create powders, juice and oil.

1. Amla has a variety of wonderful health benefits and is therefore used to make amla juice.

2. Eating either the fruit, or drinking the juice helps with skin problems such as acne and dry skin.

3. Amla Juice contains 20 times more vitamin C than orange juice, and therefore promotes a healthier immune system.

4. This wonderful gooseberry is known to reduce cholesterol due to its richness in fibre and iron. This also reduces the production of free radicals in the blood stream, significantly reducing the risk of heart disease.

5. Those with high blood sugar and diabetes may benefit from the polyphenol which is contained in the fruit. This prevents too much oxidization in the body, and is therefore a good control for blood sugar levels. The presence of fructose (a natural sugar) also allows the body to absorb insulin more effectively.

6. Drinking Amla juice regularly has been shown to increase sperm production for those suffering with low sperm count.

7. The fruit also contains fibre. This combined with its anti-inflammatory properties and high water content, means that it is a perfect antidote for stomach problems and acidity.

8. Amla is also dried to make powder. This powder is often combined with honey and used to cure sore throats and colds. The powder can be used to create amla oil which is often used in hair products, due to its ability to enrich the hair and heal a dry and itchy scalp. It has also been attributed to combat hair loss and prevent premature greying of the hair. You can do this by massaging amla oil into the scalp as a conditioner after shampooing the hair. Leave for 15 minutes and rinse.

9. Regular consumption may help the body fight and reduce the risk of cancer. This can also be used as a supplement whilst undergoing radiation or chemotherapy, in order to reduce the harmful effects.

10. Amla berries are also excellent as a source of rehydration and purification when suffering with a hangover or alcohol intoxication.

11. Rich in vitamin A, the fruit promotes collagen production in the body. This helps the skin retain elasticity keeping you looking younger, and having an anti-aging effect.

12. Amla also aids the body in absorbing protein, which stimulates and boosts the metabolic rate of the body. This helps with faster weight loss, and increases energy levels

13. Eyesight improvement is yet another life enhancing benefit of eating this wonderful fruit.

3. Neem Oil, which is extracted from the seeds of the neem tree is a natural flea treatment for animals, which also calms itchy skin.

4. The antibacterial properties of neem, allow it to be applied for a large variety of medical conditions. This can include treating a dry scalp, head lice, dandruff and hair loss.

5. Water can be infused with Neem extract and used as a skin and muscle relaxant due to its anti-inflammatory properties. This can be achieved by soaking aching muscles, feet, scalp and other body parts.

6. Shampooing the hair with neem paste, can help tame frizzy hair.

7. The leaf is not the only part of the tree that is used. In fact over 140 compounds have been isolated from the different parts of the neem tree, for use in all kinds of treatments and products.

8. Burns may heal faster when applied with water infused with neem. This also disinfects the skin, protecting it from infection.

There are a large variety of benefits and uses for the common garden herb mint, also known as pudina or mentha. This easy to grow plant, is so versatile and easy to grow, you will be amazed at the things you can use it for.

1.    Mint leaves are one of the highest herbal sources of anti-oxidants and carotenes, and are therefore used to create herbal teas.

2.    Drinking mint tea, aids the digestion process of the body and naturally stabilises both irritable bowel syndrome, and constipation. It has also been attributed to soothe diaphragm irritation, effectively treating hiccups.

3.    Drinking mint tea also has strong antimicrobial and antifungal properties, due to its high volume of natural nutrients, vitamins and minerals

4.    All mint varieties are rich in carotenes containing approximately one thousand six hundred micrograms within a standard portion. When regularly consumed, mint aids with achieving optimal eye health, whilst reducing dry eyes and sensitivity.

5.    Mint leaves can be crushed and used in conjunction with regular toothpaste, to whiten teeth with stronger effect. The pleasant aroma and oxidisation process also reduces bad breath.

6.    Menthol is an essential oil which is contained within many varieties of mint. This essential oil is regularly extracted and used in a range of different health, food and cosmetic products.

7.    Peppermint, one of the most common varieties is used in many medicines such as inhalers, in order to aid breathing, prevent coughing, hay-fever and reduce mucus during a cold or infection.

8.    When mint aroma is inhaled, it also helps asthma. The respiratory passages, and airwaves are opened and calmed to allow for a more stable airflow. This can be reproduced at home, by simply crushing peppermint leaves, and inhaling the aroma and menthol contained within them.

9.    Inhaling mint aroma also reduces nausea, and headaches. Peppermint tea works particularly well in this case.

10.    Mint leaves can also be used in other aromatherapy products, such as candles, oils, soaps and balms.

11.    Oils derived from mint, can be used in conjunction with other essential oils to provide a pleasing, and relaxing aroma in order to reduce insomnia.

12.    Mint acts as an antipruritic therefore may also be used as a rub, to provide a cooling sensation to the skin. This effectively desensitises skin irritations from itching, burns, bites and stings.

13.    Rosmarinic acid is a dominant anti-oxidant contained within mint and has high anti-inflammatory properties. Mint oil and menthol can be used whilst soaking in the bath to reduce aches, sprains and cramps.

14.    The gentle aroma of mint leaves, used in aromatherapy acts as a relaxant, reducing anxiety and stress.

15.    A variety of mint named Barbed Skullcap, kills cancer cells by destroying the blood vessels which supply the cancerous tumours.

16.    Mint, used in conjunction with salt and water can be used to create a better tasting saline gargle, in order to clear up throat infections.

17.    The pennyroyal variety of mint can be used as bug deterrent and is commonly used in spray form to repel ants and flies.

18.    Mint leaves and stalks can be tucked inside a pillow, which your pet sleeps on or in their favourite resting place to act as a flea repellent.

19.    Mint is a commonly used herb to cook with. It can add wonderful flavour to many dishes, whilst also adding healthy nutrition.

20.    When grown in larger quantities, mint acts as a mice and rats deterrent in your garden.

21.    There are over eighteen known varieties of mint, and many hybrids. Each has its own unique flavour.

22.    The Mint herb / plant grows rapidly, and is usually perennial, returning each year with little maintenance. In order to harvest your own mint for use in cooking, and any of the techniques described above, I would recommend continually removing the leaves from the mint stalks throughout the growing season, as this promotes a bushier mint with more growth. Depending upon the variety, always keep the mint well-trimmed, to prevent it from flowering, which will yield more foliage.

The mint flower itself can also be eaten, and can be a beautiful aromatic garnish as a final touch to any dish.

23.    Mint is very refreshing when added to iced drinks. Place mint stalks into a bottle of water in the refrigerator and leave it for at least one hour. The water will then be infused with mint, and can be combined with fresh fruit and vegetables to create a very healthy, yet tasty beverage.
