Moringa Leaves: Benefits and Uses (Drumstick Leaves)


The health benefits and uses of Moringa Leaves, also known as drumstick leaves or malunggay. 


1. Moringa leaves come from the moringa oleifera. A drought-resistant tree native to the Himalayas India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.



2. They also grow in many other subtropical areas around the world.



3. This has been used a natural medicine for thousands of years and has many health benefits. Hence the nickname “miracle tree.”



4. The leaves have been shown to contain 46 types of antioxidants, and over 92 nutrients, making it one of the most powerful super foods known.



5. These anti-oxidants are extremely important for maintaining an overall healthy body, destroying free radicals in the blood stream.



6. The UV in sunshine can be damaging to the skin. The anti-oxidants in moringa aid in protecting the skin from skin cancer and premature aging.



7. In order to get the benefits from these leaves you can eat them fresh, cooked or dried.



8. For the best effects be sure to eat them raw, as cooking can destroy some of the nutrients within.



9. Try adding the leaves to delicious salads and pasta dishes. Of if you prefer, you can take them powdered in capsule form from health food stores.



10. You can also make moringa tea by boiling a few leaves, or using dried leaf powder.



11. The amino acids within the leaves cause you have more energy, higher clarity of thought and alertness.



12. They also help to regulate hormones in the body and reduce fat stores in the liver.



13. Drinking moringa tea regularly helps to reduce diabetes symptoms by regulating glucose levels.



14. Those who have high cholesterol, can use moringa to prevent further plaque build-up in the arteries. Combine this with regular exercise to clear your arteries and maintain a healthy heart.



15. It has been tested as a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, the results are promising yet more research is required.



16. The leaves can also be used on the skin for their antifungal and antibacterial properties. This will clear up skin infections.

19. The leaves contain 7 times the vitamin C of oranges, 4 times the vitamin A  of carrots, 4 times the calcium of milk, 3 times the potassium of bananas and 2 times the protein of yogurt.



20. They also work as an aphrodisiac and have been shown to treat sexual disorders.



21. Regular consumption will also aid the body in preventing cancer.



22. There are high concentrations of zeatin, a powerful plant hormone which has been linked to slowing down the aging process of the human body.



23. Juice from moringa leaves can be used to stimulate other plant growth. You can spray your seedlings of any plants for faster growth, and stronger crops.



24. In colder climates you can buy moringa powder and use this as an excellent supplement to your health. 2-3 teaspoons per day should suffice.



25. The rich iron content and Vitamin A will combat anaemia, therefore it is highly recommended for Vegans and Vegetarians.
