Fenugreek Seeds: Benefits and Uses


The health benefits and uses of Fenugreek Seeds, also known as methi.

1. Fenugreek seeds come from the Trigonella foenum-graecum plant, these are mostly grown in southern Europe and Asia, but can be found all around the world.
2. These seeds are very popular for use in curries, along the leaves of the plant. They also have some great medicinal properties.
3. The seeds have been shown to help control blood sugar levels, due to the presence of a soluble fibre, which helps the body to produce insulin.
4. It helps the body to digest foods more effectively, and can work as a laxative due to the antioxidants and fibre.
5. This same process can lead to weight loss, when eaten regularly. However you should always eat a balanced diet to stay healthy.
6. Breastfeeding mothers can eat this to increase the amount of nutritious milk they produce for their babies.
7. If you are suffering with a sore throat, you can take a tablespoon and add some fenugreek seeds, lemon and honey. This will boost the immune system and sooth the pain.
8. It has been scientifically shown to reduce cholesterol levels, and is very anti-inflammatory helping with many related illnesses.
9. This will reduce inflammation everywhere, this is especially good for boils, mouth ulcers, bronchitis, pimples, eczema, and skin irritation.
10. Men who suffer with erectile dysfunction can take fenugreek seeds regularly to help increase their sex drive and libido.
11. Due to the unique flavour, these seeds are often used in tobacco and some alcoholic drinks.
