The health benefits and uses of papaya seeds, also known as paw paw seeds.
1. Papayas are delicious fruits which are native to America. The seeds are often thrown away but have some fantastic health benefits.
2. They have been used since ancient times in China and Japan as a natural medicine, and to strengthen the liver.
3. Oleic and politic acids are contained within the seeds, which can help protect the body from cancer.
4. They also contain healthy doses of vitamins C and A, which are excellent for the body overall, enhancing liver and kidney function.
5. These seeds are commonly used to treat intestinal worms and other parasites which may have infected the digestive system.
6. The healthy flavonoids within can protect the body from other infections by boosting the immune system.
7. To use these seeds, simply scoop them out of the papaya and give them a wash in cold water. Allow these to dry out in the sun on a cloth and then store.
8. You can also dehydrate the seeds for long term storage using a dehydrator or an oven on a low temperature setting.
9. Make sure to only eat 3-5 seeds on a daily basis, as they are extremely powerful. Eating too many may give you diarrhea.
10. You can also freeze these seeds for 6 months and simply defrost a few each day through the year.
11. They taste similar to pepper, and can be ground into a spice using a coffee grinder. Or pestle and mortar.
12. You can use a small amount of this seed powder to season meats and soy foods.
13. I recommend using seeds from smaller papayas, as these are slightly sweeter and less bitter than those from the larger fruits.
14. You can also add a few seeds in with your salads to add an extra boost of dietary fibre.
15. They have also been shown to kill bacteria including E.Coli, staph and salmonella.
16. Do not use these when trying for a baby, as they can reduce sperm production in men.
17. The seeds though small, also contain papain. This is more abundant in the fruit however it will also work in boosting digestion, helping you to lose weight.
